The purpose of this information is to show how the old covenant tithes and offerings have been twisted into something that is unbiblical and the teaching of some is perverting the Gospel of Jesus Christ and robbing from His glory as Lord and Savior.  We will see that tithes and offerings are a shadow of Jesus' priestly ministry and His life as Lord & King. The Judaizing teachers of the New Testament were deceiving Christians into keeping the law of Moses in order to be justified with God and to obtain dishonest gain from them.  Some Bible teachers of today are behaving in like manner; some do it out of ignorance of the scripture, or they are following the traditions of men which they have been taught. However, some teachers initiate these doctrines out of covetousness greed, being willingly disobedient and suppressing the truth of Christ's glory for dishonest wages. These modern day Judiazers also need to be silenced just as the Lord commanded for the Judaizers of the New Testament to be quieted.  Those that direct us to perform the old covenant offerings, such as tithes and firstfruits,  are turning the shadows of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus into lewdness for satisfying their desire for monetary gain.  They apply the law of Moses for monetary gain, stealing the intention of the old covenant. It was to teach of the sacrifice of Christ, showing us His glory, and displaying the mercy of God which would come to us through Christ.
Act 15:1 But some men  (Judaizers) came down from Judea and were teaching the brothers, "Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved." Act 15:2 And after Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and debate with them, Paul and Barnabas and some of the others were appointed to go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and the elders about this question. ESV

Act 15:5 But some believers who belonged to the party of the Pharisees rose up and said, "It is necessary to circumcise them and to order them to keep the law of Moses."  ESV

Act 15:7 And after there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, "Brothers, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe. Act 15:8 And God, who knows the heart, bore witness to them, by giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us, Act 15:9 and he made no distinction between us and them, having cleansed their hearts by faith. Act 15:10 Now, therefore, why are you putting God to the test by placing a yoke on the neck of the disciples that neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear? Act 15:11 But we believe that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they will."  ESV

Act 15:24 Since we have heard that some persons  (Judaizers) have gone out from us and troubled you with words, unsettling your minds, although we gave them no instructions,  ESV

Act 15:28 For it has seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay on you no greater burden than these requirements: Act 15:29 that you abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what has been strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell."  ESV

Gal 3:22 But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. Gal 3:23 Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed. Gal 3:24 So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. Gal 3:25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, Gal 3:26 for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. ESV

Php 3:2 Look out for the dogs, look out for the evildoers, look out for those who mutilate the flesh(Judaizers) Php 3:3 For we are the circumcision, who worship by the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh--  ESV

Php 3:18 For many   (Judaizers), of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ. Php 3:19 Their end is destruction, their god is their belly, and they glory in their shame, with minds set on earthly things. ESV

1Ti 1:5 The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. 1Ti 1:6 Certain persons,by swerving from these, (Judaizers) have wandered away into vain discussion, 1Ti 1:7 desiring to be teachers of the law, without understanding either what they are saying or the things about which they make confident assertions. ESV

Tit 1:10 For there are many who are insubordinate, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision party (Judaizers). Tit 1:11 They must be silenced, since they are upsetting whole families by teaching for shameful gain what they ought not to teach. ESV

Eph 2:14 For he himself is our peace (offering), who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility Eph 2:15 by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances (old covenant law), that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, Eph 2:16 and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility.  Eph 2:17 And he came and preached peace  to you who were far off and peace to those who were near. Eph 2:18 For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father. ESV

Col 2:14 by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands (old covenant law). This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. Col 2:15 He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him. Col 2:16 Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival (tithes brought to Jerusalem) or a new moon or a Sabbath. Col 2:17 These are a shadow of the things to come, but the substance belongs to Christ. ESV

Heb 8:1 Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, Heb 8:2 a minister in the holy places, in the true tent that the Lord set up, not man. Heb 8:3 For every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices; thus it is necessary for this priest also to have something to offer. Heb 8:4 Now if he were on earth, he would not be a priest at all, since there are priests who offer gifts according to the law. Heb 8:5 They serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things. For when Moses was about to erect the tent, he was instructed by God, saying, "See that you make everything according to the pattern that was shown you on the mountain." Heb 8:6 But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises. ESV

Heb 9:11 But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) Heb 9:12 he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption.  ESV

Heb 9:23 Thus it was necessary for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these rites, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. Heb 9:24 For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God on our behalf.  ESV

Heb 10:1 For since the law has but a shadow of the good things to come instead of the true form of these realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near. ESV

Heb 10:5 Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said, "Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired, but a body have you prepared for me; Heb 10:6 in burnt offerings and sin offerings you have taken no pleasure. Heb 10:7 Then I said, 'Behold, I have come to do your will, O God, as it is written of me in the scroll of the book ( Old Testament).'"  ESV

Those who teach to observe old covenant tithing are depending on the old covenant law of Moses for financial stability instead of trusting in God to supply for their needs through Christ.  There are some teachers telling Christians to pay tithes of their income and they make their living from heaping the curse of the law on believers, telling them if they tithe monetarily they will be blessed and if they do not tithe monetarily they are robbing God and they are under a curse.
2Co 3:6 who has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life. 2Co 3:7 Now if the ministry of death, carved in letters on stone, came with such glory that the Israelites could not gaze at Moses' face because of its glory, which was being brought to an end, 2Co 3:8 will not the ministry of the Spirit have even more glory? 2Co 3:9 For if there was glory in the ministry of condemnation, the ministry of righteousness must far exceed it in glory. ESV

Gal 3:1 O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified. Gal 3:2 Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? Gal 3:3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? Gal 3:4 Did you suffer so many things in vain--if indeed it was in vain? Gal 3:5 Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith--  ESV

Gal 3:7 Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham. Gal 3:8 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, "In you shall all the nations be blessed." Gal 3:9 So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith. Gal 3:10 For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, "Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them." Gal 3:11 Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for "The righteous shall live by faith."  Gal 3:12 But the law is not of faith, rather "The one who does them shall live by them." Gal 3:13
Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us--for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree"-- Gal 3:14 so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.  ESV

This site is not about anti-giving. There are ministries that need financial support to preach the true gospel. So, please find one and give to it. Let your freedom in Christ be for His glory.
Gal5:13 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. Gal 5:14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."  ESV

Rom 12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Rom 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. ESV

The rationale is to illustrate how the tithes and offerings of the old covenant were simply a mere shadow of what did come through the superiority of the new covenant, and this is only able to be fulfilled when we place our faith in Jesus. We cannot purchase the gift and blessing of God as taught by many today. You do not have to agree but you need to pay attention to the scripture. The tithes and offerings were not about money; they were about the life and ministry of Christ.
Act 8:17 Then they laid their hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit. Act 8:18 Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money, Act 8:19 saying, "Give me this power also, so that anyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit." Act 8:20 But Peter said to him, "May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money! Act 8:21 You have neither part nor lot in this matter, for your heart is not right before God. ESV

Sin Offering:
The illustration of the sin offering of the old covenant is understood to represent the suffering and death of Jesus on the cross. As known to me, there is not any controversy concerning this offering; so, it will be used as an example of how to interpret the true meaning of tithes & all of the other offerings because no church requires its members to bring an animal as a sin offering, at least none I know of.  The sin offering gives you an idea about what was to happen to Jesus so that we could receive forgiveness of sin. The blood being sprinkled and poured out demonstrates how Jesus suffered through the scourging He endured. The carcass of the animal being burned on wood represents the Lord being crucified to death on a wooden cross, and all this shows how the sinless Christ is the perfect, without blemish, sin offering.  When teaching about the old covenant offerings, all of these offerings must point us to the work and life of Christ, or the entire application will be wrong. We do not have to perform these sacrifices; we get to receive these sacrifices, for they are already performed for us through Jesus.  Jesus is our sin offering and we will see that He is also our tithe offering and Christ is every other offering on and for our behalf that God required from sinful man under the old covenant.
Lev 4:2 "Speak to the people of Israel, saying, If anyone sins unintentionally in any of the LORD's commandments about things not to be done, and does any one of them, one of them, Lev 4:3 if it is the anointed priest who sins, thus bringing guilt on the people, then he shall offer for the sin that he has committed a bull from the herd without blemish to the LORD for a sin offering. Lev 4:4 He shall bring the bull to the entrance of the tent of meeting before the LORD and lay his hand on the head of the bull and kill the bull before the LORD. Lev 4:5 And the anointed priest shall take some of the blood of the bull and bring it into the tent of meeting, Lev 4:6 and the priest shall dip his finger in the blood and sprinkle part of the blood seven times before the LORD in front of the veil of the sanctuary.Lev 4:7 And the priest shall put some of the blood on the horns of the altar of fragrant incense before the LORD that is in the tent of meeting, and all the rest of the blood of the bull he shall pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering that is at the entrance of the tent of meeting. Lev 4:8 And all the fat of the bull of the sin offering he shall remove from it, the fat that covers the entrails and all the fat that is on the entrails Lev 4:9 and the two kidneys with the fat that is on them at the loins and the long lobe of the liver that he shall remove with the kidneys Lev 4:10 (just as these are taken from the ox of the sacrifice of the peace offerings); and the priest shall burn them on the altar of burnt offering. Lev 4:11 But the skin of the bull and all its flesh, with its head, its legs, its entrails, and its dung-- Lev 4:12 all the rest of the bull--he shall carry outside the camp to a clean place, to the ash heap, and shall burn it up on a fire of wood. On the ash heap it shall be burned up. ESV

Joh 1:29 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!  ESV

2Co 5:21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. ESV

Heb 13:10 We have an altar from which those who serve the tent have no right to eat. Heb 13:11 For the bodies of those animals whose blood is brought into the holy places by the high priest as a sacrifice for sin are burned outside the camp. Heb 13:12 So Jesus also suffered outside the gate in order to sanctify the people through his own blood. Heb 13:13 Therefore let us go to him outside the camp and bear the reproach he endured. ESV

1Pe 1:19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. ESV

Sabbath:
Another misused law from the old covenant is the Sabbath law.  There are certain groups that insist we must keep the Sabbath to be pleasing to God.  These groups teach that you are sinning if you meet on Sunday (1st day of the week) instead of Saturday (7th day).  It is true that Saturday is the 7th day and under the old covenant this is the day that Israel was commanded to rest in observance of God creating everything in six days and His resting on the 7th day.  We will see that the Sabbath is a shadow of Jesus; the Sabbath required that the people of Israel rest from their work in observance of the work of creation performed by God. It is teaching us to rest in the work of Christ which brings about the new creation of us.  This new creation takes place when we are born again or born from above.  The true picture is that the Sabbath is not about resting on a day but it is relying on the fact that we rest and have confidence in the work of Jesus for our righteousness and acceptance with our Father.  Jesus is the True Sabbath; rest in all that He has accomplished for you, for this is the Sabbath that God intended for you from the beginning.  The only alternative to resting in Christ and His work is death; He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life; the only access we have to Abba, Daddy.
Exo 20:8 "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Exo 20:9 Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, Exo 20:10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. Exo 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. ESV

Exo 31:14 You shall keep the Sabbath, because it is holy for you. Everyone who profanes it shall be put to death. Whoever does any work on it, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. Exo 31:15 Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the LORD. Whoever does any workon the Sabbath day shall be put to death.  ESV

Mat 11:27 All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Mat 11:28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Mat 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." ESV

Joh 3:3 Jesus answered him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God."   ESV

Joh 3:5 Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. Joh 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Joh 3:7 Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.' Joh 3:8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit."   ESV

Joh 3:17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Joh 3:18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. ESV

Joh 19:30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, "It is finished," and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. ESV

2Co 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2Co 5:18 All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; 2Co 5:19 that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. ESV

Col 1:16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things were created through him and for him. ESV

Col 2:16 Therefore let no one pass judgment on you in questions of food and drink, or with regard to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath. ESV
Col 2:17 All such things are only a shadow of things in the future; the reality is Christ.
GOOD NEWS BIBLE

Heb 3:16 For who were those who heard and yet rebelled? Was it not all those who left Egypt led by Moses?
Heb 3:17 And with whom was he provoked for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness? Heb 3:18 And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but to those who were disobedient?  ESV

Heb 4:1 Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us fear lest any of you should seem to have failed to reach it. Heb 4:2 For good news came to us just as to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them, because they were not united by faith with those who listened. Heb 4:3 For we who have believed enter that rest, as he has said, "As I swore in my wrath, 'They shall not enter my rest,'" although his works were finished from the foundation of the world. Heb 4:4 For he has somewhere spoken of the seventh day in this way: "And God rested on the seventh day from all his works."  Heb 4:5 And again in this passage he said, "They shall not enter my rest." Heb 4:6 Since therefore it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly received the good news failed to enter because of disobedience, Heb 4:7 again he appoints a certain day, "Today," saying through David so long afterward, in the words already quoted, "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts."  Heb 4:8 For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken of another day later on. Heb 4:9 So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, Heb 4:10 for whoever has entered God's rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. Heb 4:11 Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience. ESV

Passover:
The modern Judaizers are even teaching that the purpose of the Passover is for them to receive monetary gain. Many of these teachers propose that if you send them your best monetary offering, God will dispatch an angel to be a guardian over you during Passover.  Again, they miss the majesty of Christ in His sacrifice for us. God sent plagues on Egypt to inspire Pharaoh to free the Israelites form the bondage of slavery. The last of these plagues was the death of every male firstborn of Egypt.  God instructed Moses to place the blood of a lamb around the door of the homes of the Israelites, so that when God passed over the house that had the blood of the lamb, the death plague would not take the firstborn of that house. These shadows of Christ are so evident that it is shameful for these false teachers to manipulate the children of God for financial return.  The shadows of Jesus are so numerous in the Passover sacrifice that I am only listing a minute amount of observations on this offering, but I suggest that you look up these scriptures to uncover the many other shadows of Christ.  Jesus is our Passover lamb; His body being nailed to the cross is the reality of the blood of the lamb around the door of the house. Jesus, being our Passover, is why we will never taste death. This tent (our body) we live in will expire but we will remain alive in Christ forever. The sinless Jesus is the actuality of the faultless lamb. The last plague sent on Egypt was this plague of death and this is what finally convinced  Pharaoh to free the people from slavery; this being the last plague is showing us that only the blood of Jesus is capable of freeing us from death and the bondage of sin. God sent other plagues but the people remained slaves. It was the death of the firstborn that came during the Passover which persuaded Pharaoh to free Israel, and it was the blood of the lamb that protected Israel during the Passover. The blood (the blood of the lamb without blemish) of Jesus (our Passover lamb & the death of the firstborn) is what destroys the yoke of sin and death (slavery) in us, and Christ wipes out the authority that satan (Pharaoh) has over us. The greedy Judaizers in the New Testament writings were referred to as the enemies of the cross of Christ, for they twisted the old covenant shadows of Jesus to get monetary returns and this caused Paul to weep. The modern Judaizers are guilty of the same reprehensible deeds and their conduct should also fill our eyes with tears. Instead of lifting up Jesus, the only hope for the salvation of man, they reduce Christ's work for us and this reduction of His of glory is only being used in an attempt to prosper their bank accounts.
Exo 12:5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male a year old. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats, Exo 12:6 and you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month, when the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill their lambs at twilight. Exo 12:7 "Then they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it. ESV

Isa 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth. Isa 53:8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of my people? Isa 53:9 And they made his grave with the wicked and with a rich man in his death, although he had done no violence, and there was no deceit in his mouth. Isa 53:10 Yet it was the will of the LORD to crush him; he has put him to grief; when his soul makes an offering for guilt, he shall see his offspring; he shall prolong his days; the will of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. ESV

Joh 1:29 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! ESV

1Co 5:7 Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. 1Co 5:8 Let us therefore celebrate the festival, not with the old leaven, the leaven of malice and evil, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. ESV

1Pe 1:18 knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, 1Pe 1:19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. 1Pe 1:20 He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you 1Pe 1:21 who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. ESV

Rev 1:5 and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood Rev 1:6 and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. ESV

Rev 5:12 saying with a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!" ESV
